The visitor centre for the Paanajärvi National Park is under construction in Pyaozero (Paajarvi) village in the Louhi district. Pyaozero is situated 54km from the Park border and is the closest settlement to the Park. All Park traffic travels through Pyaozero. The visitor centre is being constructed on the outskirts of the village on a beautiful esker by a lake.
The Visitor Centre will be opened for visitors in the first half of 2001. It has been planned by Kampsax International A/S of Denmark and constructed by NCC-Puolimatka of Finland.
The Visitor Centre is to inform in advance people who are on their way to the Paanajärvi National Park. Permissions, licenses and keys for cabins and saunas are available here.
It also gives other tourists, school children, locals etc a view of what is precious in the Paanajärvi National Park
- nature of the park, geology, fauna, flora and history;
- special features of nature protected areas in Karelia;
- access to the Paanajärvi National Park.
